Shane Krider’s Mind Power – Coaching the coach: Positive self-image – episode 6

Based on the podcast by Shane Krider

Self-image is a powerful concept, and one that is discussed at length in Maxwell Maltz’s Psycho-Cybernetics. Essentially, once you’ve established this idea of yourself, who you are and what you can or cannot achieve, you keep yourself on track to fulfilling this self-image. You kind of go on autopilot and don’t stretch those limits because this is what you believe for yourself. Those beliefs then become self-fulfilling prophecies, and become your reality. Even if you start out-performing your self-image, and achieving higher than you had imagined at the time you projected that image of yourself, unconsciously, you end up sabotaging it. Because it doesn’t fit the realm of your original self-image.

A good analogy for this concept is lotto winners – a huge percentage of winners lose their wealth within five years. This is largely because they haven’t adjusted their self-image to align with this new life and the opportunities it provides.

This is why self-image is so important. Once we know whom we are, what we are, and what life is, this belief system keeps us stuck like cement and you often repeat the same patterns. Your life can decay and you can’t even see it happen until ultimately it morphs into a slow downward spiral.

This concept of positive self-image is one of the most responsible things to learn. So, how do we overcome, out-perform and reprogram our self-image?

Our guest today is Paul Wheeler, a personal coach I admire greatly whose ability to revisit his self-image over the past seven years particularly, has allowed him to perform at a peak level in every area that matters – his business, marriage, parenting, and personality.

Paul is one of the transformational leaders from our Prosperity of Life business opportunity who has gained great financial success earning multiple $50K and $100K member accolades. These are awarded to those who have earned $50K / $100K USD in a single month. Paul has taken the concept of working on yourself and attempting to create bigger and better results in life to an ultimate level which is truly inspiring to me, so I know his view on this will add value to those on a personal development path.

Paul always had a burning desire to create something and improve everything that was in front of him. It was this drive that led him to self-improvement and he became fascinated with personal development, along with his wife Allison, and the education and PD journey has continued from there.

Being successful in sports, but not really in career, Paul explained he always knew the game was with himself, he really believed that and he still does. But it wasn’t until his daughter was about to be born that he realized something had to change. He always had a great work ethic, and liked to work hard, but it wasn’t equating to the life he wanted. If he continued working this hard for mediocre results, he would never see his daughter. That became the catalyst to look for a different opportunity, where he could have everything: wealth, income, fitness and ultimately time to spend with his family.

Paul was strategic about his next move, he looked around to see what opportunities were out there and how they aligned with his checklist – work from home business, results based on worth ethic, an industry he could be passionate about, while providing the support he needed. This led him to the Prosperity of Life program, and since then, Paul has based his super successful personal coaching business through the business opportunity.

Paul’s success didn’t explode immediately. One of the things he had to confront was his self-image. When he found Prosperity of Life and the Masters of Destinies program he was not committing himself, he wasn’t following through, and he wasn’t giving back. Paul’s wife was worried about the venture because of these traits he’d been displaying at the time.

“I had a self-image of a failure, but there must have been just enough left for me to take a step forward, because that’s when I really started to connect with successful people like you guys, but I felt like I couldn’t stand within 10-metres of you. I wasn’t worthy, I had nothing to contribute. I was looking at everyone’s success and didn’t put myself in that circle.”

Well thank goodness Paul got over that, revisited the limits he put on himself, and projected a new positive self-image that led him to some serious success results. It has been wonderful to see his commitment to reassessing himself, the vision he wants to obtain, and watch him rise to meet it as a worthy recipient. Paul is truly an inspirational leader within our Born To Prosper/ Prosperity of Life community.

One of my favorite take-away moments from my chat with Paul was this:

“Fall in love with the journey and promote that positive self-image. I will achieve this goal, I will fall in love with possibility of it, and then every step, whatever it is, equals progress. I don’t care about the measuring stick, I love the journey. It’s happening, it’s an evolving idea.”

I just love that! Your positive self-image is always evolving. You have to keep revisiting it, resetting it to make sure you’re not continually running into the same limitations. Give yourself space to really work on it, surround yourself with supportive people, and create a positive self-image that is aligned with your goals.

Thanks Paul for your invaluable insight. I look forward to continuing the discussion on the importance of positive self-image at our Prosperity of Life Sovereignty Live event next week!
